Petroglyphs from an unknown civilization found in India

The discovery of countless petroglyphs believed to be tens of thousands of years old in India has caused excitement among archaeologists who believe that ancient rock art may give clues to a previously unknown civilization. The details about the Petroglyphs from an unknown civilization found in India are as following

Petroglyphs from an unknown civilization found in India

Some of the ancient rock drawings feature animals that are characteristic of Africa rather than India, making the discovery even stranger. These rare petroglyphs could have been created in the early 10,000s BC.

The rock carvings, known as petroglyphs, offer clues to what many scholars believe might be an unknown chapter in the early history of India.

The petroglyphs are well preserved, and most of the images recorded on the flat, rocky hills remained hidden from modern civilization for thousands of years.

Many of the petroglyphs are reportedly hidden below the surface with only a few in sight, considered sacred by the natives of the area where ancient rock art was found. The rock carvings, of great variety, represent animals, birds, human figures and geometric designs.

While little is known about petroglyphs, the way rock carvings were made and their similarity to rock art found in other parts of the world have led experts to believe that they were created in prehistoric times and are possibly among the oldest that have been discovered.

“Our first deduction from examining these petroglyphs is that they were created around 10,000 BC,” the head of the Maharashtra state archeology department, Texas Garge, told the BBC.

Petroglyphs from an unknown civilization found in India

The Petroglyphs from an unknown civilization found in India were discovered by a group of explorers led by Sudhir Risbood and Manoj Marathe, who began searching for more petroglyphs after encountering some in the area.

“We walked thousands of kilometers. People started sending us pictures, and we even recruited schools in our efforts to find them. ”

“We had the students ask their grandparents and other village elders if they knew of any other engravings. This provided us with a wealth of valuable information, ”Risbood told the BBC.

Ultimately, explorers discovered ancient petroglyphs in and around 52 villages in the area. However, as the explorers pointed out, only five villages knew that the images existed.

In addition to actively searching for new petroglyphs in the area, Risbood and his team played an active role in documenting the petroglyphs and persuading authorities to participate in the study and preservation of rock carvings.

Rock art is believed to have been created by a hunter-gatherer community who were not familiar with agriculture: “We have not found any images of agricultural activities, but the drawings show animals that were hunted, and there are details of other forms of animals. .. ”

So whoever created the petroglyphs knew about animals and sea creatures. This indicates that whoever created the petroglyphs actively depended on hunting for food.

And although most of the petroglyphs represent animals native to the region, they also illustrate animals such as rhinos and hippos not found in India.

This raises many important questions. Did the people who created the intricate petroglyphs migrate to India from Africa? Or were these animals found in India thousands of years ago?
